Monroe Edward Thompson
Mr. Monroe Edward Thompson, 77, of High Point, passed away on December 14, 2009. He was born September 23, 1932 in Gretna, Virginia to Robert and Josey Layne Thompson. Mr. Thompson had transported trucks for Mickey Truck Bodies, Inc. and buses for Thomas Built Buses in High Point. He enjoyed walking for exercise at Oak Hollow Mall in High Point and working at flea markets.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by a brother, James Thompson of Gretna, Virginia and a sister, Sue Haskins of Chatham, Virginia.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Alice Hawkins Thompson, of the residence; two sons, Hank Thompson of Greensboro and Bobby Thompson of Fries, Virginia; four daughters, Brenda Thompson of Greensboro, Linda Thompson and Diane Boggs, both of Kernersville and Connie Rook of Roanoke Rapids; three brothers, Willie Thompson and Claude Thompson, both of Gretna, Virginia and David Thompson of Nathalie, Virginia; five sisters, Inez Phelps of Chatham, Virginia, Irene Eanes and Mary Thompson, both of Norfolk, Virginia, Bonnie Dawson of Nathalie, Virginia and Bobbie Jean Wilson of Halifax, Virginia; and thirteen grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 16, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
Graveside services will be held Friday, December 18, at 11:00 a.m. at Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Hwy 48, Roanoke Rapids, with Rev. Sidney Collins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
